April 28, 2014 Design Technique: Zoning With zoning, groups of like materials are placed in specific areas, or zones, within a composition. This technique is similar to grouping in that space must be evident between each group of materials and between the individual materials within each group. The space between each group must be ample enough that each stands out with clear independence. Zoning allows individual shapes, colors and textures to stand out. This technique is often applied to a composition larger than a simple flower arrangement. One in a series of Design Techniques from the Florists’ Review Design School book.
