The opening lines introduce "Field to Vase: Santa Cruz," a new documentary filmed, edited and produced by the Los Angeles-based husband-and-wife team, Hyunsoo Moon and Haejung Kim.

This past June, Haejung and "Moon" traveled to Santa Cruz in pursuit of a visual narrative that had captured their creative imaginations. They were enamored with the storytelling potential of the Field to Vase Dinner Tour and wanted to document their observations on film.

The result of their efforts is "Field to Vase: Santa Cruz," a documentary about the American grown flower movement and the people involved in the floral renaissance that is taking place on farms and in flower shops across the country.

The 7:39-minute documentary portrays the field-to-vase story, through the voices of the flower farmer, the floral designer, the chef, and the people who advocate for and enjoy American grown flowers.

Haejung Kim has been a motion graphics designer at ABC Entertainment for the past 12 years. Her husband and partner Hyunsoo Moon is a film editor who has worked in reality television, documentaries, short films and music videos. The "Field to Vase" documentary is their first collaboration.

Feeling chilly? Bring autumn indoors!

When I feel a chill in the air, it reminds me that it's time to bring the beauty of autumn indoors! We can add visual warmth to any room with the welcoming flair of fresh fall flowers.

Flowers are an element of
living well
When your family gathers around a table decorated with a centerpiece of fresh flowers, they feel like special guests. As our seasonal activities move indoors, we want to take the beauty of natural materials inside with us.

"Flowers bring about positive emotional feelings in those who enter a room," says Dr. Jeannette Haviland-Jones according to Rutgers University research. "They make the space more welcoming and create a sharing atmosphere."

10 tips for adding seasonal savvy to your autumn centerpiece.

  • Use flowers of the seasonsuch as mums, lilies, sunflowers, celosia or bittersweet.
  • Choose containers in autumnal colors such as bamboo, metal, glass, or pottery.
  • Incorporate pods, cones and berries gathered outdoors into your fresh flower centerpiece.
  • Add birds and feathers in with the branches, twigs, or vines of their natural habitat.
  • Gather fall leaves and pinecones to accent autumnal colored pottery or collectibles.
  • Accessorize with decorative wire to include trendy metallic accents in your fresh flower designs.
  • Group small blooming plants of varying heights and autumnal colors as a massed centerpiece.
  • Cluster pumpkins and gourds in a colorful collection of seasonal shapes and colors.
  • Fill tall, mismatched and clear vases with acorns, nuts, pods, cones, and clusters of berries to create columns of color.
  • Bind cornstalks, leaves and branches or band vases with Bind or Rustic Wire.
