Minnesota-grown summer botanicals held by Rachael Ackerman of Blue Sky Flower Farm, one of our Farm Tour Hosts on June 30, 2019, during the Summit Pre-Tour.
The Summit is for Floral Designers!
Debra Prinzing created the Slow Flowers Summit for progressive florists and designers who believe in a sustainable approach to their art and who align with the Slow Flowers brand.
Meet the talented Floral Designers you'll hear at the Summit:

Louesa Roebuck, artist, designer and author of Foraged Flora, will co-present "The Art & Ethics of Foraging," followed by a collaborative and interactive botanical installation with Minnesota-flora -- and you're invited to participate in this all-hands-on experience.
LOUESA ROEBUCK is the co-author of the acclaimed book Foraged Flora, published in 2016. After studying printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design, she moved to California in 1997 and began working at Chez Panisse. Louesa later opened August, a seminal and before-its-time fashion, art, and community hub.

Ten years ago, she returned to her lifelong love of foraged and gleaned floral work, which has been her recent medium of choice, followed closely by monotypes. She divides her time between the Bay Area and Los Angeles and currently lives in Ojai. Her floral work has been featured in Vogue, C Magazine, Remodelista, Sunset, Martha Stewart Living and the Los Angeles Times.

Carly Jenkins of Killing Frost Farm in Missoula, Montana, will join Louesa as co-presenter of "The Art and Ethics of Foraging," and she'll share her unique experiences selling foraged goods in the floral marketplace.

CARLY JENKINS grows cut flowers with her partner Jamie Rogers in the Potomac Valley near Missoula, Montana, serving Western Montana's wholesale market as well as event planners and DIY brides.
They also make wreaths and other seasonal design pieces from October until December, using 100% farm-raised or foraged botanicals.
Carly designed a magnificent botanical couture look for 2018 American Flower Week campaign featuring foraged moss, lichen and cones (show here (c) Alex Brooks).
She teaches creativity and design to fellow flower farmers, including the 2018 PacificNorthwest Cut Flower Growers and a session on large-scale, foam-free installations with Jeriann Sabin of Deadhead Cut Flowers.

Whit McClure of Los Angeles-based Whit Hazen, is our Capstone Speaker, sharing her story of "Floral Activism" as she demonstrates her signature floral styling.
Studio Floral Designer WHIT MCCLURE moved to Los Angeles three years ago and she has been designing with flowers ever since. Her introduction to flower farming and floral design is rooted in connections made through food justice and the local culinary community in Washington, D.C. Whit spent years after college working on farms, in community gardens, and in the nonprofit world, teaching folks of all ages and walks of life how to grow their own food. She finds floral design as the perfect blend of working with plants, crafting beauty, and collaborating with others, while remaining committed to social justice in her free time. Ever-inspired by nature’s abundant beauty and driven to respect and protect its resources, Whit is motivated to bring more beauty in the world for others.
