Design Technique: Layering
Layering is the process of arranging leaves or other flat-surfaced materials directly on top of each other, in an overlapping manner, with little or no space in between. The materials may be layered individually or bound in bunches or stacks. This technique often produces a scale-like appearance, especially when leaves are used. Here, ornamental kale leaves are layered and assembled into a large composite rose-like flower. Composite flowers such as this can be formed by wiring each leaf or with floral adhesive.
