Explore Floral Design ~ 10 day class

Explore Floral Design		Maximum 6 students 9am to 5pm 1hour lunch June 3-7 and 10-14 /10 days Monday thru Friday

Overview

This 10 day Exploration Floral Design class will teach the basic principals of floral design, and so much more. Each day will have a morning lecture and afternoon of hands on designing. Students will participate in the processing and handling of fresh flowers each day for the lab session. The students will be trained to execute all basic forms of design to apply for a floral designer position. This is a required class for job placement. The class offers business information on pricing for profit, we recommend additional business classes for retail Flower Shop operations. The students will have a final exam on materials covered during lectures. And every class day will be more fun than you can imagine and the amount of flowers to work with and industry information is fantastic!

Activities

Each student will have materials provided to execute all designs. The classroom also has additional books, supplies and flowers for purchase. This allows students to practice additional designs at home.

We will cover the Principles, Elements & Techniques of Design

· Balance, Emphasis, Harmony, Proportion, Rhythm & Unity

· Color, Form, Line, Space & Texture

· Bailing, Banding, Binding, Bunching, Clustering, Detailing, Facing, Framing, Grouping, Hand Tying, Kubari, Lacing, Layering, Mirroring, Pave, Pillowing, Sequencing, Sheltering, Stacking, Terracing, Tufting, Veiling, Wrapping & Zoning.

Floral Design Tools

The Flower Classroom provides a Notebook of Floral information, Color Wheel and a California Flower Selection guide.

Students should bring something for note taking and a hand held calculator. The classroom has assorted tools available to use, new floral tools are available in the classroom to purchase. Any other tools necessary for the class will be available.

Evaluation

A certificate of completion of this class will be available with a passing grade on the final exam.

Students that have enrolled and passed the Explore Floral Design and wish to enroll in the Advanced Floral design class that follows will be given a ½ off discount on that class price when combining these 2 classes.

Materials

Fresh flowers and foliage’s and the containers will be provided for all the designs. These designs are yours to take with you at the end of each class day. You will not take apart your designs to execute the next floral design.

Flower selection will be seasonal. The classroom will have a wide selection of flowers to choose from for design execution. You will have permanent materials and all wire, tape, glue, etc. will be provided. Additional materials, fresh flowers & foliage’s can be purchased for continued practice outside of the classroom.

Cancelation of your space in the class is allowed up to 14 days before class for a full refund. After that a credit will be applied for classes in the future.

by appointment....take the class 2-3 days in a row for 4-6 weeks, 12 consecutive days, or schedule 1 day for 12 months. We create together your time frame to learn floral design.

A (re-fresh)new Products, containers, techniques & supplies to work and learn with. You will create a minimum of 45+ designs in these 12 days. All designs are yours daily to take home.

* Business Day add on day/class $ 150.00 ( good for students opening a home floral studio, flower shop, special event specialist).

I was looking for a refresher floral design class, where I could build on the skills I learned years ago and learn new skills, and that’s exactly what I found. Christina is a talented and knowledgeable floral artist and instructor who presents a well prepared curriculum. I was pleased with the abundance and variety of flowers we were given to work with, the tools we were given and the pleasantness of the classroom. The 12 day class I took is not an easy workshop style course. I was challenged and at times discouraged, but I learned so much and was delighted with many of the designs I was able to make with Christina’s instruction and guidance. She won’t let you off easy, and even asked a classmate to throw her design in the trash and start over(!) but I liked that, because I was there to learn and learn I did! She sometimes questioned my choices and placements when I was headed the wrong directions with a design but she didn’t give up on me or my designs. I also learned a great deal about the marketing and business side of the profession. I believe with hard work and ongoing practice this class could prepare a student like me to work in the floral industry. I have gained a connection with a world-known floral artist who is willing to offer ideas and advice in the future. I have benefited greatly from the resources Christina shared with us in the form of websites, email lists, floral design books and connections with wholesale houses. I would love to go back someday and take some of the specialized design classes she offers. The class was worth my time, effort and money. I would highly recommend it. Receiving my completion certificate at the end was very rewarding for me!

Anyone wanting to learn about floral design should enroll in the "explore floral design" series of classes. Christina's "Explore Floral Design " classes cover every aspect of floral design from the proper handling of fresh floral materials, the materials used in floral design,color and design theory,the mechanics of floral design as well as the "business of floral design. The course content is well organized. The studio setting is pleasant with more than adequate space and equipment. Christina supplies the clases with a wide variety of materials for studetn use.
